Materials covered by Digitizing

The main criteria which guided us in selecting materials for digitization were:

  • content value
  • rarity/uniqueness
  • cultural significance to the local community
  • physical vulnerability

In the first phase of the project, a collection of old postcards of the sights of Pula dating from the end of the 19th century to the 1930s was digitized. The collection has significant historical and cultural value and represents a visual document of the development of the sights of the city of Pula. It is assumed that the visual dimension of the materials will provoke greater interest among a wider range of users. In addition to scanned postcards, a collection of sheet music of folk songs, entitled Croatian Folk Songs from Istria, which marked the centenary of its publication in 2010, was also digitized. The collection was published in Pula in 1910 by the Croatian publisher and printer Josip Krmpotić, and was compiled by the Istrian composer Matko Brajša Rašan, who is recognized for the preservation of Istrian folk music heritage.
